The Quadratic Solver

The QUADRATIC FORMULA (hidden behind a secret panel)
One of the fiddliest jobs in maths is dealing with quadratic equations, especially if the solutions are not "real". Normally you need to use the quadratic formula... but not today !

Put the numbers for your quadratic equation in the boxes, then click SOLVE.

You get the two solutions worked out to loads of decimal places. If the solution is mixed, then the imaginary bit is marked with an "i".

x2+ x + = 0

x1=
x2=

Go THIS way Go THAT way

What a shame you can't take this into a GCSE exam with you!

By the way, did you know there's an old fashioned way of solving quadratics called Completing The Square?
